Volunteering in costume

Because Halloween this year fell on the fifth Saturday of October, coinciding with the Cape Elizabeth UMC’s week to volunteer at the Preble Street Soup Kitchen,  it was an opportunity to have a little fun and perhaps brighten a few lives.

Bobbing for apples, pinning the nose on a witch, breaking a pinata, and creating  human mummies . . . it was all part of the Cape Elizabeth UMC’s Halloween Party on Halloween Eve, organized by Gail Parker and the Nurture Committee.

More than 750 persons from the vast spectrum of faith communities in the Portland-area gathered Sunday afternoon, Oct. 18, at First Parish Church in Portland to rally in support of Vote No on Proposition One, including members of the Cape Elizabeth United Methodist Church.

The Cape Elizabeth UMC’s first Beans Supper of the fall season was a celebration of food involving a large part of the Cape community. More than 135 people attended the Saturday night supper, providing the church with a profit of $1,200.
